HOLD ICE ACCOUNTABLE
As the proud daughter of an immigrant father who came to America and served in the United States Army, Marni knows firsthand our immigration system should reflect our values, not fear and division. That’s why she is leading the fight against ICE’s terror tactics and un-American, unconstitutional attacks on our community. On the City Council, she led the charge to join Minneapolis's lawsuit against ICE and blew the whistle against ICE weapons training in our community. In Congress, she will work to get ICE's masked mobs off our streets, stand up to Trump’s attacks, and protect our neighbors from lawless government overreach. She supports meaningful reform that keeps our borders secure and provides legal pathways to citizenship for hardworking long-term residents and Dreamers who have grown up here as Americans.
CLEAN UP CORRUPTION AND DEFEND OUR DEMOCRACY
Washington should work for the people, not Donald Trump’s mega-donors and the corporate interests who put him in office. Marni will crack down on corruption by banning members of Congress from trading stocks and using their positions for personal gain. Trump's scandals and abuses of power have eroded public trust, and too many politicians are putting their own interests ahead of the people they serve. With our democracy under threat by MAGA Republicans in Washington, we must pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the For the People Act to protect free and fair elections and expand access to the ballot, and overturn Citizens United to get dark money out of our elections. Marni will work to restore integrity in government and ensure our democracy serves everyone.
PROTECT AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY
No one should have to choose between their health and their paycheck or worry about losing the Social Security they’ve earned after a lifetime of work. Marni will fight to protect and expand the Affordable Care Act, restore ACA tax credits, and include a public option that gives families more affordable choices. She will also stand up to protect Social Security, oppose any cuts or privatization, and ensure the program is strengthened for current and future retirees. To lower costs, Marni will expand Medicare’s power to negotiate prescription drug prices and cap what families pay out of pocket. Her plan includes expanding coverage to dental, hearing, and vision, and mental healthcare so every American can access the full care they need. As Deputy City Attorney in San Diego, Marni took on the opioid industry for the harm they caused our communities — and she’ll take that same fight to Congress. Marni is ready to stand up to big corporations and protect the benefits families rely on, from affordable healthcare to Social Security.
RAISE WAGES AND LOWER COSTS
From groceries to utilities to housing, life is getting more expensive for working families. Marni will fight against Trump’s tariff war that has made essential goods more expensive – and take on the corporations raising prices to boost their profits, just like she did when she passed the nation’s first ban on digital only coupons in grocery stores, so that everyone can access discounts on food. Marni has spent her career fighting to protect hardworking Americans. Right now, the system is rigged, and working people are paying the price while the ultrawealthy see their profits soar. Marni has seen it up close and has spent her career pushing back as a labor attorney in the Obama Administration. In San Diego, Marni is leading the charge to crack down on wage theft by giving the city real enforcement power to hold bad employers accountable.
TACKLE THE HOUSING CRISIS AND UNRIG THE ECONOMY
Marni will fight for an economy that works for working families. She has already launched first-of-its-kind affordable housing downpayment grants for local teachers and fast-tracked approval for new homes that are affordable for working families. As Americans get squeezed by rising housing costs, Marni will cut red tape and make it easier to build more affordable housing to make sure people can live closer to where they work. As a workers’ rights attorney in President Obama’s administration, she took on employers who violated workers’ rights and made sure the working class received what they were owed. In Congress, she will finish the work she started as counsel to the House Education and Labor Committee by passing the PRO Act to strengthen workers’ rights to organize, bargain, and earn higher wages. It is time to rebuild an economy that rewards work, not just wealth.
STOP TRUMP’S ENVIRONMENTAL DESTRUCTION
Climate change is an urgent threat, and meeting it requires action that puts our environment ahead of the corporate polluters bankrolling Donald Trump and his allies. As a prosecutor, Marni took on corporate polluters like Monsanto for contaminating our waterways, and she’ll bring that same approach to Congress — holding polluters accountable and protecting clean air and safe communities. California’s coastline is some of the most beautiful in the world, and it belongs to all of us. Marni will protect our beaches and waters from Trump’s plan to drill for oil on our coast. She will fight to reverse Trump-era rollbacks that weakened environmental protections and slowed progress toward cleaner, more affordable energy. By making our country climate-friendly, we will lower costs for working families, strengthen our energy independence, and create good-paying jobs.
DEFEND REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM
Our fundamental rights are being stripped away, and Republicans will stop at nothing to pass a nationwide abortion ban — Marni is running for Congress to stop them. When Roe v. Wade was overturned, Marni passed a law in San Diego to protect abortion rights, and she'll lead the fight to codify Roe into federal law. On the San Diego City Council, Marni took action to protect access to care by supporting policies that safeguard providers like Planned Parenthood and ensuring patients can get the services they need without intimidation or harassment. Marni will lead the charge to reverse Trump’s cuts to Planned Parenthood and be a deciding vote to codify Roe v. Wade into law to restore the protections that millions of women have relied on for decades. Marni will always defend reproductive freedom and ensure our healthcare decisions remain between patients and their doctors, never politicians in Washington.
PROTECT LGBTQ+ RIGHTS
As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, Marni knows what’s at stake. In the Deep South, Marni worked as a civil rights attorney, where she started the first medical-legal aid clinic to provide legal services to those living with HIV and AIDS who were being discriminated against. In Congress, she will work to pass the Equality Act so the protections that Californians enjoy are guaranteed nationwide. She will face the attacks head-on, from bans on gender-affirming care to efforts to silence LGBTQ+ students in our schools. She will fight book bans that target LGBTQ+ voices, defend full Title IX protections, and protect the freedom to build a family through marriage, adoption, or assisted reproductive care. And she will lead the fight to end conversion therapy and make clear that federal law stands on the side of LGBTQ+ young people, not against them.
END THE PLAGUE OF GUN VIOLENCE
A member of the Columbine generation, Marni was in high school when she watched the news in horror as students ran for their lives out of the classrooms at Columbine High School. She believes that everyone deserves to live free from the fear of gun violence, and that belief has guided her work both in the courtroom and on the City Council. Marni wrote the first law in California banning the sale of untraceable ghost guns — and won her lawsuit when the gun lobby sued her. She’ll keep fighting to pass gun violence prevention laws that protect our communities and put our safety first, including banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, requiring universal background checks, closing loopholes that allow dangerous individuals to access firearms, cracking down on illegal gun trafficking, strengthening red flag laws, and holding gun manufacturers accountable when their products are used to harm our communities.
PROMOTE AMERICAN INNOVATION
Marni believes the United States must lead the world in setting a cutting-edge, trustworthy standard for innovation that works for working people. America should be a global leader in emerging technologies while ensuring that advancements expand access to the financial system, bolster public trust, and allow workers, families, and small businesses to benefit from the economy of the future. Marni supports legislation like the CLARITY Act, the GENIUS Act, and similar efforts that provide regulatory clarity for the safe development of emerging technologies that are essential to growing the American economy.
FOREIGN POLICY THAT KEEPS AMERICA SAFE
Marni opposes Trump’s unauthorized wars that rip away, and she’ll work to rebuild America’s alliances and standing in the world. She will fight back against the Trump Administration’s attempts to slash education and healthcare funding to pay for forever wars — because our taxpayer dollars should be used to provide access to healthcare and education at home. As a Peace Corps volunteer in Botswana during the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis, Marni saw firsthand how American leadership can save lives and strengthen our standing in the world. In the Middle East, she’ll push for a two-state solution that ensures lasting peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians, stand with Ukraine in its fight against Putin’s aggression, and support America’s role in NATO. She will defend and expand proven programs like PEPFAR that combat HIV/AIDS and save millions of lives, and push for continued investment in global health infrastructure to prevent the next crisis. Marni believes in the power of US foreign diplomacy, including restoring funding for USAID.
